Observation Narrative
This plot documents dune scrub in the secondary dunes at First Landing State Park, between the beach and the campground. Vegetation is characterized by dense, mounded patches of low (max. 5 meters tall), stunted Quercus virginiana and Q. incana, interspersed with patches of open sand supporting typical xerophytic dune grasses and forbs. It is unclear whether this community should be considered a stunted version of the Quercus virginiana - Quercus incana Woodland that occurs a little further inland around the campground, or a maritime dune shrubland.
